The 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks is Sunday. There’s a lot of “church media” on the market and shrink-wrapped sermons. I’ve seen a few good videos but some of the material out there just seem to be attempts to make a cheap buck. I’ve become a little jaded on the mass marketing. I don’t think 9/11 is an “opportunity” for a really cool sermon idea. Instead, I’d rather use the day as a remembrance of the victims and brave public servants who gave their lives to save others. I’d rather use it as a day to remember those brave men and women who are still laying down their lives for freedom. I’d rather use it as a day to teach my children the history of the day that defined their generation. I’d rather use it as a day to be thankful that in America we still live in a land where we are free to worship God and preach from His Word. But instead of creating a pop culture event in our churches, maybe the best place to remember 9/11 is in the prayer closet, at the altar, and around the dinner table?
Just my thoughts…what do you think?
I believe it’s a time to remember those that died in the Twin Towers, and those that gave their lives trying to save the lives of the ones trapped when it fell. Also, it is a time to think of the service men and women who serve our nation, keeping it safe as possible, leaving their families behind, sacrificing everything for our freedoms. But, most of all, it is a time to remember all the blessings God has bestowed upon our nation, and our nation seems to be turning our back on Him. He died for us, and it is a shame we won’t live for Him!
